Prof. Girish Kumar Choudhary, The Vice-Chancellor of Patna University joined Patna University on 23.09.2020. He is Professor of Electrical Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Patna. He was born on 8th August, 1959. After Matriculation in 1975, he acquired Diploma in Electrical Engineering, securing 1st class with distinction. Thereafter, he acquired B.Sc.(Electrical Engineering) degree in 1985 with distinction securing 1st rank in Patna University. He was awarded Principal’s Gold Medal for his services and excellence in various extra-curricular activities.

During the Engineering study, he got the opportunity to work with All India Radio Patna, as an Engineering Assistant. Thereafter he joined as an Assistant Engineer in VSNL, Arvi after clearing the (IES) Examination, 1985, conducted by the UPSC.

Being interested primarily in academics, he left VSNL and joined Bihar College of Engineering, Patna, as a Lecturer in Electrical Engineering in January, 1988. Apart from teaching, research and administrative work of the college, he continued his academic journey by acquiring Ph.D. degree from the Patna University in 1998 and was promoted as an Associate Professor and thereafter, as a Professor in 2006, in NIT Patna.

In addition to a large no. of publications in a number of Journals/ conferences/symposiums, he has supervised many Ph. D. Thesis and PG Dissertations. He is the first person who has acquired a patent in NIT Patna. He is also having the experience of handling externally funded projects as PI, and organising faculty development programme as a coordinator.

Apart from teaching and research at UG, PG and Ph. D. levels, he has the experience of working successfully on many challenging administrative posts such as HOD, IT , Electrical Engineering, Dean (P&D), Dean (FW), Chairman, BOS, HMC, Chairman, Central Purchase Committee, etc. at NIT, Patna. He has also worked as Pro-Vice Chancellor, Patliputra University, Patna from 02.04.2018 to 21.09.2020. He was member of senate, Patna University, Patna and NIT, Patna, member Academic Council, member Board of Affiliation, AKU, Patna. Presently, he is member of New Teaching Program, (ANTPC), and Statute Committee of AKU, Patna. He is Fellow of IE (India) and IETE (India) and life member of ISTE, New Delhi.

He has been working at various levels, in institutes of national repute. He has been an expert member of NBA and AICTE, New Delhi.
