The Department of Home Science came into existence with the establishment of Magadh Mahila College in 1946 with the introduction of intermediate and undergraduate teaching After 38 long years, PG course in Home Science was introduced in 1984 with the aim of imparting higher education to the students. This PG Department of Home Science is the only university department, presently located on Magadh Mahila College campus and functions for all administrative and professional activities of the university department. The department strives to inspire the students to develop a keen interest in the subject. The department possesses a well equipped laboratory and a rich library. Many of our ex- students are actively engaged in research, NGOs, hospitals ICDS, UNICEF etc. in addition to teaching. The students passed out from this department are well established and holding good positions in their respective organizations. Vision of the Department: • To train young girls/women as prudent scholars and competent professionals capable of becoming ambassadors of graceful service to family and to society. • To equip young women to cope with the challenges of the times by fostering self respect and self reliance, promoting divergent thinking and cultivating a knowledge culture. • To ensure the all-round development of students by providing value-based instructions and skill training. • To enable them to be equal to the requirements of a competitive works place by building self-confidence and self-esteem. Mission of the Department: • To instil and sustain in the students a lasting desire to seek knowledge and to impart to them the skills to acquire it. • To develop qualities essential to make students proficient in the most vital familial concerns of the modern times to home and career. • To inculcate team spirit and leadership skills in the students. • To ensure success in their professions and to assure career responsibility to inspire in the students a deep sense of pride for the nation and its culture along with a global outlook. Objectives of the Department: • Devotion to honesty, integrity, loyalty and be a good citizen of the country. • To pursue knowledge and apply it gainfully. • To rise above caste, creed and religious fundamentalism. • To be sensible to the needs of the weaker sections of the society. • To be strong to face challenges and reality of the life. • To be sensitive to the human cause and sufferings. • To preserve environment ecology. • To uphold Indian culture and traditions.
